Nestled in the heart of Monforte d'Alba, Marziano Abbona's Barolo whispers the story of its terroir, a symphony of the richness of the land and tradition. This Barolo is a testament to the indomitable spirit of Nebbiolo grapes; the vines, ennobled by thirty years of growth, produce a wine that speaks of finesse, power, and a rich tapestry of flavors. Crafted through meticulous vinification, including destemming, pressing, and a ballet of maceration and fermentation with indigenous yeasts, this Barolo is a harmony of nature's gifts and the human touch. The wine gracefully matures in oak barrels for at least 30 months, undergoing alcoholic and malolactic fermentations, emerging as a narrative of its origin. Each bottle rests peacefully for about 6 months before being commercialized, awaiting the moment when it will grace the glass. This Barolo, slightly cooler and more approachable than its siblings, Pressenda and Ravera, serves as a gateway to the soul of Marziano Abbona's winemaking philosophy. This wine reveals its layers with each sip, a captivating garnet red with orange highlights, a sign of its noble aging process. Then, on the nose, an intricate bouquet of ripe red fruits, notably cherries and raspberries, complemented by evolving scents of dried roses, leather, truffle, and a whisper of tobacco and undergrowth. On the palate, this Barolo offers a harmonious balance between power and elegance. The robust tannins are well-integrated, paving the way for a full-bodied experience. Flavors of dark fruits meld with earthy undertones, licorice, and a hint of minerality, leading to a lingering, complex finish that echoes the nose. Marziano Abbona's Barolo finds its soulmate in dishes rich in complexity and depth. A traditional pairing with truffle risotto or braised beef cheeks enhances its intricate layers.
